Current Membership of the Land Court

The Land Court and Land Appeal Court are constituted under the Land Court Act 2000 and provide an appeal mechanism for the resolution of land related matters.

There are presently three permanent Members.

CAC MacDonald, BA, LLB, LLM (President)
RS Jones, LLB (Hons), AAPI, Cert. Real Estate Val. (Member)
PA Smith BA, LLB (Member)

Land Court Members preside over hearings of all matters within the jurisdiction of the Land Court.

There is one Judicial Registrar:

BR O'Connor LLB, LLM

The Judicial Registrar primarily deals with the Court's alternative dispute resolution processes and decisions that can be determined on the papers.

Two Land Court Members and a Judge of the Supreme Court constitute the Land Appeal Court. The Judges are as follows:

The Honourable Justice PJ Lyons (Southern District)
The Honourable DVC McMeekin (Central District)
The Honourable Justice KA Cullinane (Northern District)
The Honourable Justice SG Jones (Far Northern District)

The Land Court Registry is the administrative arm of the Land Court and Land Appeal Court. It comprises part of the Department of Justice and the Attorney General.

The current Registrar is Katie Stride, BA, LLB, MPub.Ad.

The Land Court Registry also provides registry services to the Aboriginal Land Tribunal, Torres Strait Islander Land Tribunal and the Land and Resources Tribunal (when reconstituted on occasion).

Previously there were two part-time Members of the Land Court whose terms have now expired. These were:
